Malkasten Dusseldorf
Malkasten Düsseldorf: The seat of Malkasten e.V. is Jacobistraße 6a in Düsseldorf Pempelfort. A park is connected to the site, which is laid out as an extension of the Hofgarten. The park – through which a part of the central Düsseldorf flows – is adorned with several sculptures, including the Fountain of Venus, whose eponymous sculpture, which unfortunately no longer exists today, was modelled after Milo’s Venus and cast from melted paint tubes. In the new building created after the Second World War there is a restaurant whose interior was co-designed by the Düsseldorf Art Academy professor and artist Rosemarie Trockel (*1952), among others.
Malkasten Düsseldorf e.V. is the oldest art association in Germany, presumably one of the oldest art associations worldwide. It was founded on 6. of August 1848 in Düsseldorf, its most important founding members included the art academy professors Theodor Hildebrandt (1804-1874), Heinrich Mücke (1806-1891) and Karl Ferdinand Sohn (1805-1867), as well as the artists of the Düsseldorf painting school Lorenz Clasen (1812-1899), Johann Peter Hasenclever (1810-1853), Joseph Fay (1812-1875), Johann Wilhelm Preyer (1803-1889), Peter Schwingen (1813-1863), Emanuel Leutze (1816-1868) from the United States and Julius Tausch (1827-1895), municipal music director of Düsseldorf.
